TANDANG SORA

Power Up QC (locally called "TS") was designed with basic crag shapes encountered in classic climbs in Wawa, Montalban. Weeks were spent contemplating on the climbing wall designs, as i had no prior visits to climbing gyms outside the country. I finally called Bubut Tan Torres, a close friend, now a surfing buddy , and we sat down to discuss what we both liked most about climbing in the outdoors. That must have been the best decision made for creating climbing gym designs... to date, no major changes have been made in the top rope sections of TS... how else can you want to change a mountain?

TS holds 8 top rope lines which bring out the basic moves in climbing. Balancy slab moves, classic rock overs on an over hanging lip, dicey foot work on a sustained overhang, and even stemming as if climbing a chimney; you'll find them all here. To cap it all off, a mean 40 foot lead roof poses as visually, the biggest challenge of the gym. Hiding though like a gold mine to the hardcore climbers is a quaint boulder cave. It sits quietly for most of the day, until 6pm when the rock dudes and dudettes of pinoy climbing show up to play. Then the boulder cave comes alive.

TS is also the closest climbing gym to the crags of Montalban, and is more often than not the meeting place for the climbers who head out to the crag on the weekend.
